I had previously purchased a Laura Ashley down-alternative duvet from elsewhere, and did not feel that it kept me warm enough, so I chose the real down duvet this time. Right out of the bag, the duvet REEKED. It has a sweet but rottening smell to it that my allergies immediately reacted to it. I left it outside to air out one sunny day and one cloudy day. Still reeked. I sprayed Lysol over every single square inch, front and back, and it still smelled, although a lot less than when it first came out of the bag. After washing the sheets and the duvet cover, I put the duvet in the cover, and the scent from my detergent and fabric softener sheet were slightly strong enough to disguise the odor from the duvet.

On the other hand, the fabric of the sheets was nice. They have only been through one wash, so they are not as super soft as advertised. But I think once they have been through more washes and use, they will get softer.
